BMC Participation Statement
"The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement."
LUUHC Participation Statement
LUUHC welcomes all new members whatever their experience level and skill set. We aim to provide you with a safe and friendly environment in which to experience the pleasures of hiking and simple mountaineering. Our intention as a club is to allow you to learn and gain experience through the club – experience which may ultimately be put to use in gaining nationally recognised qualifications and in leading walks for the club.
If you are new to the activity then we ask that you gain experience in stages, without rushing as this will promote both the learning of appropriate skills and the understanding of the risks inherent in the activity.
Members of the club are expected to be responsible for their own safety and to directly contribute to the safety of others. Because some activities are more dangerous and/or difficult than others it is important that you realise that these may only be available to those with previous experience and demonstrated ability.
Social Participation Statement
LUUHC organises regular social events aimed at increasing the camaraderie of the club and developing new friendships and social groups. We acknowledge that in some situations alcohol has come to play a significant role in these proceedings however we firmly condemn any attempt to make its consumption obligatory. To this end we do not organise any socials at which drinking to excess is enforced or even encouraged. We intend that all of our members can enjoy our events safely and responsibly.
Insurance Statement
Please note: the LUUHC does not have insurance cover for our members. Therefore it is the responsibility of each member to provide their own insurance if they want it. Personal insurance can be bought from a number of companies, a good one being the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), visit their website for more information; www.thebmc.co.uk.
