The story

The naked calendar is a joint effort of the Leeds University Union Mountaineering Club and the Hiking Club. The initiative was taken after a Mountaineering Club member was injured in a fall and subsequently flown to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Here is his story:

"I was plucked from the side of Ilkley Moor in October 2010 by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and subsequently spent two weeks slobbing about with a broken spine in the LGI where I had lots of time to think. I decided to raise some money for the YAA to show my gratitude for their help. This calendar is the final product of the idea. Thank you to everyone who took part. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed shooting it!" Dan Roberts

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The charity: the Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is a helicopter rescue service, that operates as an independent charity. You might have seen some of their live-saving interventions on the BBC documentary series Helicopter Heroes. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves most of the places that the Hiking Club goes to for Sunday trips, including the Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District and the North York Moors. Even though the Hiking Club has an excellent safety record, we are very much aware that an accident can always happen. Therefore it is a big reassurance to know that there is a service like the Yorkshire Air Aimbulance, that can make all the difference in an emergency, especially given the remoteness of the locations where we go hiking. That is why we didn't hesitate to get naked, to try to raise some money for the Air Ambulance.

For more information on the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and for information on how to make donations, have a look at their website.

Bonus naked pictures!

As a teaser, here are a few of the pictures that we made in the Lake District, which unfortunately didn't make the final version of the calendar.
