HIKING WEEKLY NEWS

Hey Hikers!

Well what a truly fantastic weekend we had in the Lake District. Brilliant weather compared to the year before and it was so nice to be able to take so many people on the first trip. Thanks to all the cooks, drivers, leaders, washer- uppers etc. for your help.
This week we have quite a bit going on so make sure you make a brew and then take time to read through all the amazing things we have coming up.

***Buffs***
The deadline is now upon us for placing orders for the club buffs. If you have placed an order with Esther, then we will contact you about payment at a later stage once we have send off the final order.

***Christmas Meal and how to buy tickets***
Friday November 27th- Park Plaza Hotel, Leeds City Centre

“Hark the Mountains Hikers Sing!”

It’s time to put that Friday night ‘Tesco Value’ ready meal to one side, put on your best clobber and start spreading the hiking Christmas cheer!
We will be having our annual Christmas meal at the Park Plaza Hotel (Just off City Square in town). A gob smackingly low price of £29 will get you: a three course meal, half a bottle of wine and evening entertainment. We will then head out into Leeds to carry on the Parttaaayy into the early hours. The dress code is formal evening wear and everybody needs to bring an anonymous secret Santa gift costing no more than £5 (wrap it up). We then distribute the gifts during the dinner.
Tickets are now on Sale on the Hiking Page of the Union website. Please note that due to the Park Plaza’s policy for payment we need to get everyone to buy their tickets by next Monday 26th October. Apologies for the rush!

***Coming up this week***

***Wednesday Social*** – 21st October, 8:30pm onwards at the Library Pub
We are back at the Library again this week. A great opportunity to get all the latest gossip from the last few trips!

***DIY OTLEY RUN***- Friday 23rd October starting at Woodies Bar, Far Headingley 4pm-late

This is the event for our FIRST PROPER SOCIAL, which is a DIY Themed Otley run visiting the usual motley bunch of pubs. If you’ve never done one before THIS IS A LEEDS UNI MUST!! There is usually someone sick by the third pub, someone crying by the fourth pub, and someone dead by the fifth pub SO COME ALONG! We will be meeting at Woodies Ale House (http://gkpubs.co.uk/pubs-in-leeds/woodies-pub/]) at 4PM and spending an hour there filling the first portion of our boots.

The theme for this Otley run is DIY. AND NO. Before you ask this doesn’t mean come as Bob the builder, or that plumber your mum always uses.

IT MEANS MAKE THE COSTUME YO’SELF! Be as inventive or banal as you like, you can spend a thousand quid in Homebase or spend nothing pulling all the hair out of your mums comb to go as Chewbacca

***Sunday Hike – Rosedale Head, North York Moors*** - Sunday 25th October, leaving 9am Parkinson Steps sharp

Cost £10

Rosedale is a stunning valley located in the centre of the North York Moors National Park and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful moorland. Nearby, the Lion Inn (The Best Pub in the North York Moors!) is one of the most remote pubs in the country and is very popular with music fans that flock to hear some of the best local and national bands.

**Sign up** for this trip will be on Wednesday 21st October upstairs 1:30-2:30pm in Room 3 of the University Union. Two spaces will be available through email sign-up (from 8pm Monday 19th) for those unable to sign up on Wednesday. This is on a first come first serve basis. Please make sure that you put on the email Sunday Hike to avoid confusion with the sign up for the following weekend trip!

***Second Weekend Trip- Snowdonia (Rhyd Ddu) ***

Thursday 29th October- Sunday 1st November- Cost £40
Or
Friday 30th October- Sunday 1st November- Cost £35

--Departing at Cromer Terrace, at 5:30pm sharp.--

This trip is the perfect follow-on from last weekend. We will be exploring the breath-taking Welsh National Park, staying in recently refurbished accommodation, which this time has bunk beds.
As we are travelling that bit further, we are giving members the option to go for three nights (leaving on the Thursday Evening) or two nights (leaving on the Friday evening). We are all staying at the same accommodation. Again we provide all evening meals and breakfast. You just need to bring lunches for eating out on the hike.

For full weekend trip gear visit:

---Borrowing Kit for the weekend trip---
The club does have a limited number of sleeping bags. If you would like to loan one, then let us know when you sign up and we will pack you one for the trip. No roll mats are required as we are sleeping on beds.
We should be back on Sunday evening at approximately 8pm.

---Sign up for Snowdonia! --- Wednesday 21st October Room 3, Upstairs in the University Union 1:30-2:30pm

The sign up for the weekend trip will be in the usual place, also if you have any questions about the club, this would be a good time to come and ask the committee. You can pay for the trip using cash only as the card machine is still broken.

If you are absolutely unable to attend the sign up, there will be Three email spaces available from 8pm tonight (not a minute before) (Monday 19th October) on a first come first serve basis. You need to email secretary@luuhc.com. You need to also state in the email whether you want to go on the Thursday or the Friday so we can allocate you to the right minibus.

If anyone has any questions they would like to ask in the meantime, don’t hesitate to drop me an email. Further details about trips, gear and socials are available on www.luuhc.com.

Have a tremendous week!
Jamie (Secretary)
