Hiking Weekly News 2nd November 2015

Hello one and all!

I hope everyone on the Snowdonia trip enjoyed it as much as I did. My favourite bit was watching you all get soaked during the apple bobbing competition and raising my personal record to two tables in the box game! Apparently North Wales was hotter than the Algarve yesterday so we were truly blessed with the weather.

***Christmas Meal and how to buy tickets***
Friday November 27th- Park Plaza Hotel, Leeds City Centre

The Park Plaza have agreed to extend the deadline for Christmas meal tickets, so keep buying for you and all your friends! £29 for three courses and half a bottle of wine each, Bargain!! Tickets can still be bought on the hiking page of the Union website.

***Coming up this week***

***Outdoor film night***
Wednesday 4th November 7-8:30pm Baines Wing (SR1.14)

We will be putting on a selection of cracking outdoor films on a big screen in the Baines Wing before heading over to The Library Pub for a bevvy or two. Everyone is welcome and don’t forget to bring nibbles!

***Wednesday Social*** – 4th November, 8:30pm onwards at the Library Pub

As we are fast approaching winter, the idea of a pint and a nice juicy burger in a warm friendly establishment feels ever more appealing. It’s also a great chance to catch up on all the hiking trip shenanigans.

***Chatsworth Sunday Hike*** Sunday 8th November –
9am sharp Parkinson Steps , Cost £10

One of my favourite places ever! Chatsworth is nestled in the heart of the Peak District and has a variety of leisurely walks over rolling hills or along the River Derwent. There area is part of the Chatsworth Estate, its crowning jewel being the magnificent Chatsworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and notably one of the finest aristocratic residences in England.

***Sign-up for Chatsworth*** Wednesday 4th November 1:30-2:30pm, Room 3 upstairs in the Union
Please bring cash as the card machine is annoyingly still out of action.

--Email spots—For those who cannot make sign up there are two email spots available on a first come first serve basis from 8pm this evening (Monday 2nd November). Email secretary@luuhc.com

***Dates for the Diary***

***Navigation skills session*** Wednesday 11th November 7-8:30pm Parkinson SR (4.20)
If you want to learn more about how to navigate routes or you want a little refresher, then we will be doing a small classroom session. If there is a lot of interest we may do some more later in the year too and do some outdoor nav sessions too. More details on this will be available in next week's email.

***Nintendo 64 evening*** Sunday 15th November 8:30pm onwards, Room 6 upstairs in the Union

Jordan and Dave own a legendary Nintendo 64 console that they have managed to rescue from the mid-1990s and will be combining it with 21st Century technology (large screen and projector). We will be having a Mario-Cart multi-player championship and there are some seriously awesome prizes to be won! There is a facebook event for this with all the details and serious banter on the Hiking Facebook group so please click 'Attending' on that.

Have a spiffing week!
