Hiking Weekly News - 3rd October 2016

Hello Hikers!

The Give It A Go was a fabulous success with beautiful weather, I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. And there’s loads more to get involved with in the next few weeks, so here we go...

***LIBRARY SOCIAL*** Wednesday 5th October
8.30pm, Library Pub

This will be a weekly event from now until… well, forever! So come down to the Library Pub for some food and a couple of pints, and obviously the best company! Come and meet loads of new people and ask any questions that you might have.

***SUNDAY HIKE: SUTTON BANK*** Sunday 9th October
9am Parkinson Steps

Another wonderful hike will occur this Sunday, this time to the beautiful Sutton Bank on the edge of the North York Moors. There are woods and cliffs to explore, or the medieval Rievaulx Abbey for a bit of history. There’ll be a good variety of routes available so there will be something to suit everyone.

Sign up will go live tonight (Monday 3rd October, 8pm) and will be online until 7pm tomorrow (Tuesday 4th October). This trip will be £8, absolute bargain! If the sign up fills up, then please email me (secretary@luuhc.com) so I can put you on the reserve list.

***BRAITHWAITE WEEKEND*** Friday 14th October-Sunday 16th October
5.30pm Cromer Terrace

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiime of the year… not Christmas, but something even better… LUUHC’s trip to Braithwaite, in the beautiful Lake District! This promises to be the best LUUHC trip you will ever go on. A bit of scrambling, a gentle stroll, there will be something for everyone, and a lot of laughs!

This trip will be £25, an even better bargain! This includes transport, fuel, accommodation, two breakfasts and your Saturday night meal! We’ll be staying in the village hall so everyone will need a sleeping bag and camp mat. We do have some that you can borrow; these will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis, so please email me (secretary@luuhc.com) once you have signed up for a place if you need to borrow anything. We will be leaving Cromer Terrace at Uni at 5.30pm on the Friday, so please be there about 15 minutes beforehand so that we can leave on time.

If the sign up is full, then please email me and I will put you on the reserve list. I WILL NOT put you on the reserve list if you message me or the club on Facebook, so emails only please!
Sign up will go live at 8pm tonight, and will go offline at 7pm tomorrow night (Tuesday).

Everyone who bought membership before last Tuesday (before it became £22) should’ve received an email from us explaining the rebate. If you haven’t emailed either James (treasurer@luuhc.com) or myself (secretary@luuhc.com ) then you have until the 31st October to let us know what you would like us to do with this money.

We have given you the option this year to give a £2 charitable donation when buying a weekend trip ticket. On the weekend trip you will then collectively agree on which charity to give the money too. We came up with this idea due to our big decrease in prices this year, so we thought it’d be a good way to put money back into the charities that help maintain the landscapes that we visit, and that help us and other hikers if we have any problems on the hills, as you never know when you might need them.

If you are signing up for a trip, then please only get a place for yourself. Don’t sign up for a friend whether they have membership or not, as we need to know the details of everyone coming on our trips. Also, check your basket to make sure that you’ve added the correct items, before you give us all of your money!

Visit our website if you have any queries about the club, and if you have any questions about any of the information in this email or any other parts of our club, then please email me at secretary@luuhc.com

Congratulations for making it to the bottom of the end of this very long email!

See you all soon!
Sophie (Secretary)
