Another fantastic hike was had by many this week; everyone was so keen to come that we even had to increase the size of the trip mid-week! Now, there’s a lot going on in the next couple of weeks, so please read this lovely email carefully, I’m hoping you don’t get bored half way through and go back to doing your colouring in (geography students!)!
***GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF SOCIAL*** Wednesday 26th October
I’m not sure if anyone else has had this dilemma since the start of term, but the choice between pub socials to see the fabulous hikers and staying in to watch the Great British Bake Off has been a difficult one! But now, this is it. The moment we’ve all been waiting for. The final… watched with fellow hikers!
This is a BYOC (bring your own cake) event so bring along your sweet creations for a buffet of truly epic proportions.
The address will be released closer to the time so keep an eye on the facebook page and let us know if you’re planning on coming via: https://www.facebook.com/events/1255457141183961/
Get baking hikers!
P.S. There are limited spaces in the house so if this proves to be popular we might need to limit numbers but hopefully we won’t need to!
9am Parkinson Steps
‘Cracking cheese Gromit’… yes you guessed it, we’re going to the home of the famous Wensleydale cheese and therefore Wallace and Gromit! If you have no idea what I’m on about, please do Google research and watch the films before attending this trip!
But on a more serious note, this trip will include the normal leisurely hikes, and also a group going out to learn navigational skills from more experienced members. You can choose on the day which route you’d like to do but this is a great way to enhance your skills in the outdoors and if you’re thinking of becoming a leader for the club then it’s a brilliant way for us to see what you can already do or what you need to work on.
Sign up will go onto the Union webpage at 8pm tonight (Monday) and will remain there until 7pm on Tuesday. If the trip fills up, or you miss sign up then please email me (email@example.com) to be added to the reserve list (do not contact any Facebook pages, email only please). It promises to be a fabulous day of hiking and a bit of learning mixed in too!
***CRIANLARICH-WEEKEND TRIP*** 3rd or 4th-6th November
5.30pm Cromer Terrace on either 3rd or 4th November
Our next weekend trip is nearly upon us, and after the huge success of Braithwaite a couple of weeks ago then this is expected to be incredible! Stunning scenery, huge mountains, and the best bunch of people you could spend a weekend with!
The first thing to explain is the dates!
This trip will be a bit more serious than Braithwaite, just with the fact that Scottish mountains are a bit bigger, which comes with it a bit more epic-ness! You must must must have the correct kit, it doesn’t have to be the fanciest but we just want you all to be safe; check our website (luuhc.com) if you’re not sure.
As we’ll be staying in a village hall again, you will need sleeping bags and mats; if you don’t have these then we do have some to borrow on a first-come-first-serve basis, so email Patrick (firstname.lastname@example.org) after you’ve signed up.
You can also add to our charity donations at the same time by donating £2 when you sign up, which will help organisations associated with the area’s in which the club go to (Mountain Rescue etc).
If the trip fills up then please email me (email@example.com) to be put on the reserve list, including whether you would like to leave on the Thursday or Friday.
*** LASER ZONE*** Wednesday 9th November
It’s time to settle the score. Who is truly the best outdoor society at Leeds? There’s only one way to find out – LASERZONE.
Hikers vs mountaineers vs cavers…
22 members from each society will go head to head in four 11 vs 11 vs 11 games.
Tickets will go onto the Union webpage at 8pm on Thursday 27th October and will be £7.90. Please make sure that you buy the ticket for the Hikers option (a.k.a. the best outdoor society!).
Provided the rivalry isn’t too great, there will be a joint social afterwards so keep an eye on the Facebook event page for details.
***CHRISTMAS MEAL*** Friday 25th November
The annual event that every Leeds hiker looks forward to…No, not winter - The Christmas Meal!
So put away your boots, take off your waterproofs and get dressed up for the highlight of the LUUHC calendar.
For just £25 you will get a 3 course meal, half a bottle of wine and our very own DJ. There will be a secret Santa and the much anticipated prize giving (categories TBA).
And if this isn’t enough to get you singing Slade and digging out the Christmas decorations, we will also be going to Backroom after the meal for yet more Christmas merriment.
Sign up will go on the Union webpage at 8pm on Wednesday 26th October (Don’t worry if you’re at the GBBO social, there should still be tickets available!), the best £25 you will spend all Christmas long!
***MEMBERSHIP REBATES (FREE MONEY!)***
It’s the last week that you can claim a refund on your membership (if you bought it before it came £22), if you don’t let us know then we’ll split the money between our charity donations and the Graham Connell fund. If you haven’t emailed either James (firstname.lastname@example.org) or myself (email@example.com ) then you have until the 31st October to let us know.
