Hello Hikers!
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend in Scotland, with a sneaky peak of magical wintery snow included!

6pm -7.30pm Parkinson Building S.R. B10

You think you've mastered the basics? Gold DofE done you proud and maybe your even an aspiring leader? Perhaps you're a leader already, but feeling a bit rusty and still not sure if you can tell your handrails from your leapfrogs and your attack-point from azimuth.
Come along for some advanced navigation training (but in the warmth and dry of a university seminar room that you'll have to find first). We'll also be covering some basic group management skills and route planning considerations. We'll introduce you to many of the key skills you'll need to practice to become a leader or organise your own trips in the hills.

The session will be fairly flexible around what YOU want to learn but as an example, some topics we may cover include: identifying and relating features on ground and map; route planning; the three 'Norths' & recap grid reference; use of compass and bearings; handrailing, attack points & aiming off; pacing and timing; navigation in restricted visibility; slope aspects; re-location strategies; basic considerations for leading groups; introduction to emergency scenarios

Click ‘going’ on the Facebook group if you’re interested in coming along so we know how many to expect. https://www.facebook.com/events/1326162077427873/
