Suitable Footwear

When attending Sunday hikes and weekend trips you need walking boots with good ankle support, thick soles and some level of waterproofing

If you turn up to a hike with unsuitable footwear you will be unable to come on the trip and regrettably cannot be refunded.

Examples of suitable and unsuitable footwear are below - if you are unsure if your boots are suitable please speak to a member of committee or email luuhc.gear@gmail.com

Check out the Buying Gear page for information on where to buy or borrow new or used footwear.

Suitable Footwear

Boots must have ankle support and a thick sole

Unsuitable Footwear

Trainers (including approach shoes) and “fashion” boots are not suitable for hikes

Winter Boots

Due to the need for stability and crampon fitting, B2 (or B3) boots are required for winter trips. See what these terms mean. There will be a boot check and crampon fitting before the trip. Due to the cost of these boots new, it is recommended to buy used or borrow.
